Thanked: 10Another unknown one - who knows more?
Hi there,
I picked this one up some while ago for a steal. The blade seemed to be in unused condition but had picked up some rust along the tang and also on the blade. Finally, I found the time to clean it up. I prefer a mild approach, so I basically just polished it. Luckily the rust came of well, leaving only some very small and shallow scars.
The scales are made with thin brass that is plated with mother of pearl. Some silver pins round the thing up. The blade is about 6/8 with an extreme hollow ground. Makes an awesome sound. On the tang there is a crown and "O", "C" and "1" stamped in. Nothing else.
Any information is greatly appreciated.
Cheers

That is one beautiful razor! I love the look of shoulderless blades. The scales are gorgeous too!

Very Nice and unusual scales. I find it most beautiful. Don't Drop!
I hope someone will come along with the knowledge to pin down a maker. I am fairly certain the type of crown on it indicates French. It also seems to have been repinned at some point. I wonder what material is in the spacers between the pearl? I could imagine it as having the same collars as the panels do. Very nice piece!

I remember a similar stamping in a relatively recent thread, but don't remember any of the info.

Thanked: 10Well observerd. I did that.
I had to take it out because there was quite some rust on the tang around the pin and I really wanted to get rid of that.
The originals were pretty similar - very simple brass pins. I guess they wanted to color-match the pins that hold the mpo plates. Although, I'm thinking about replacing them with silver pins.

Thanked: 3164That is a dream razor - you are very lucky to own it!
The crown (couronne) looks like on of the old french Thiers region marks (poinçons), but I can't find a maker with initials "O C" - that is, if they are indeed the makers initials! That type of scales, although they are a much older design, also featured in the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, probably because of the amount of fine work that went into making them.
Regards,
Neil
