Thanked: 0Dovo Master... Messed up after 1 shave?
So I just bought this Dovo razor from RoyalShave.com... I got it, cleaned i off... Honed it a little on my new home. Shaved one side of my face, all was good... Go to grab it the next day and BLAM, two little notches in it. Anyone know what happened? I dried it off and stored it in my barracks room on a shelf in a stand... I'm so confused and slightly irritated.

Sorry to see the damage to your razor. If the chips were not present when you received the razor the possibilities are
limited to some action you either took yourself in honing or cleaning or shaving. I do not know what else to say. The possible spectrum of events when the razor was not in your presence overnight could be endless.Bob

Thanked: 4942This happens all the time to new folks and most can't even tell you what they hit the razor on.
Get it re-honed and you'll be good to go.
Have fun.

I know exactly what happened. The razor touched a hard object. Twice.
What we don't know is who did it. I read a post from Lynn recently where he says that it's pretty common for new shavers to tap the edge on something and not even know it. Maybe the faucet, the sink, the strop hardware, the counter. You name it, there are lot's of potential culprits.
The other possibility is that someone else did that to your razor. Do other guys in your barracks have access to your stuff? Maybe someone tested the edge by trying to cut something?
Either way it looks like you need to hone those nicks out before you shave again. When you get the razor back from honing make sure to be extra careful not to tap anything. And I'd lock it up if possible.

Thanked: 0Wow the response time here is amazing. Thanks guys. The thing is I don't remember the notches when I put it up.. =\ People do have access to my stuff but if they come in they have to leave a note, which they didn't. I'm not super upset if it can be honed out, I just talked to a guy out here that seems to know how to hone straight razors. Speaking of which does anyone know a credible honemeister on Oahu (Hawaii)?

Yup, tapped my DOVO the first week on the faucet. Was not too bad but did not shave with it. Stuff happens.

I use a fairly small bathroom sink to shave in. What I found that works very well for me is the rubberized non slip shelf liner that they sell in Walmart or larger grocery stores. Comes in rolls about 10in wide. I cut pieces off and lay them over the lip of the sink. It offers some protection from dings. I also have a smaller piece under my shaving bowl so it doesn't slip. The nice thing is they're perforated so they dry fast.

Thanked: 270You can wipe the lather off on a wet sponge during the shave. I have one of those rubber cell phone mats you put on the dashboard of your car underneath my shaving mug.

I am urning you in for having a knife in the barracks... You know military people can't be trusted with sharp objects! Only guns and grenades!
