Help
Hello again, just got this from my grandad inlaw. http://instagram.com/p/Vv5BGNOZtE/
Two razors are Halfmann Special by Solingen. The other one is Le Kiki... The brush is badger... The stone is marble (I think).
1) can I do something about the rust?
2) can I do something about the one razor with the crumbled cutting edge?
3) what's the use of the marble stone?
Please help me, cause I love the two Halfmanns.

it is nearly impossible to judge from that or any photo whether or not the rusted razor can be saved. it all depends on the depth of the rust. try cleaning them with a good medal polish such as MAAS, Simichrome or Flipz and then sanding them with 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper... that will show where tthe good metal remains, take some nice close up pics and post them here that might help the restoration masters.
remember restoration is a art and cannot always be done you should clean them though
the chipped blade will wind up narrower
the "le kiki" looks like it is an early changeable blade razor there might be a slot on the front that would allow you to swap blades there were usually 7 blades in the set
a marble stone that would be odd.. clean or lap that so the true surface can be seen... it might have been his knife sharpening stone or his razor hone hard to tell until you try.
enjoy,

Closer pics would help. The rusty razor looks like cell rot, which would be unfortunate for those beautiful scales, but common on tortoise pattern celluloid.

Agree that the very rusty one is a cell rot victim, a shame, it was lovely once upon a time. Keep it away from the others and other steel, if indeed you keep it at all. The frameback should clean up OK and the chipped one may. If the stone was with the razorsit presumably served a purpose in the past, try it and see (perhaps not with the heirlooms). Good luck.

cell rot (celluloid rot) is caused by the chemicals in the scales deteriorating and releases an acidic gas that can ruin the blade the only cure is to get rid of the scales if it starts it will only get worse. sometimes though by the time it is found it is too late for extra hollow razors. sanding and an experts eye is needed to determine the damage.

I actually cleaned all of them from rust with light sandpaper, Sidol and steel wool.
