    Default Razor Question

OK guys I'm new so forgive me if I'm asking this in the wrong place. I want to start using a straight razor but, I just dont know which one to start with. There are some many types and brands and I dont want to spend to much money on one to start with in case this type of shaving isnt for me. Any suggestions for me?

You want a sharp one, all else is just bells and whistles. Check the Buy/Sell/Trade forum. Get whatever is in your price range and specify that you want shave ready.

Otherwise, if you hone well I like Dovos. I've never tried a TI. Need to I think.

Honestly, few people will tell you this but just reading won't cut it. You'll need some experience and skill in the art. Start with a sharp razor pre-honed and learn to hone as a side hobby for a little while.

Others might disagree, but its like reading how to fly a plane. Valuable, yet only a small first step in actually being able to do it.

I agree with you I need to just get the stuff and start working on strop and hone. I just posted in the Buy/Trade/Sale area for a razor so I can get started. I was also thinking about getting a shave package that comes with everything I need to get started. If I like it and get good at it Ill invest in a really good razor.

I strongly suspect you'll do both.

If you still need a strop and all, I'd recommend contacting Tony about his kits. Best stuff at a reasonable price. If you want to piece it together yourself, then follow Alan's advice.

A starter kit from Tony is great advice.

I have to second that, a starter kit is your best bet. You certainly don't want to spend alot of money on something your not sure you may want to continue with but at the same time if you buy poor quality stuff your initial experience with a straight will be reflected by the tools and equipment you use. So the bottom line is buy quality but modest stuff. You can get both.
