Henckels Twinworks "66"
Anyone else have one of these? I picked one recently on eBay (I no doubt overpaid @ $43), and had my first shave with it today. This thing is a great shaver! It was in pretty rough shape when I got it (it smelled like musty, old pipe smoke... ). There were some small nicks in the blade as well. I cleaned it up with soap and an old toothbrush, disinfected it, polished it up (w/MAAS), taped the spine and spent probably an hour in total between a 1K Japanese whetstone of unknown provenance (from my kitchen drawer...), a 4k/8k Norton, and a Tony Miller pasted paddle (3, 1, 0.5 micron), stropped it up and viola! A really nice, smooth shave this morning...
This razor is about a 5/8, semi-hollow grind with what I think is a modified Spanish point (it has a semi-circular notch ground into the end of the blade). Nothng too fancy - basic black plastic scales, but solid and tight. It says "J.A. HENCKELS TWINWORKS SOLINGEN GERMANY 66" on one side of the tang, and "GRAEF & SCHMIDT" on the other.
I've only been at this about 6 months, but this is defintely my most successful reclamation project to date...

Don't know about the 66. I have two Henckel 50 1/2's and they are both terrific shavers. I'm not sure if the number is a model designation or if it has some other meaning.

Henkel's makes consistantly great shavers. If you get one for a good price in rough shape its worth while to fix it up.

I believe I have the same or nearly same razor. Henckels Twinworks/ Graef & Schmidt about 5/8 with barber's notch. I don't know if it's a #66 but it has "Hollow Ground" etched on the side although the profile is more like a wedge. If I ever get some free time that will be at or near the head of the line of razors I plan to hone. It looks like it could be a good shaver.

I mostly use M-Soft Combat Flight Simulator, WWII Europe by Xplosiv. I'll try some others once I upgrade to a newer, faster laptop(MS Flightsim X looks interesting.). Getting back to the subject, I looked at that Henckels and it has the number nine (9) and the edge is etched with "Henckel's Hollow Ground" so it's a different model but probably in the same class or category. AGAIN! Don't feel bad about needing the GF's help with the mods to the aircraft. I still have no clue about how to do it, I'd probably end up with a tie dyed Spitfire.
