Awhile back I bought a vintage razor at a shop near me. It had some issues with the blade that Ilija gave me some advise on and I used the 1000 grit sand paper that he suggested and got the nick out of the blade but when I took it to the Norton 4K/8K I got this "Black Ice" appearence along the length of the blade so I just figured I would keep trying until I could get the line to disappear. Well it never did and until I read a post on this site regarding this "Black Ice" issue I just gave up on it. Well last night I back honed it and did a regular pyramid on this blade and then took it to the strop with 100 on the linen and 100 on the leather. This morning I gave it 50 more laps on the leather and shaved with it. What an outstanding shave this razor gave me. The razor was made for some retailer in Montreal and the steel is Shefield Silver Steel manufactured in Germany (thats what is written on the tang). But what a smooth shave this blade gave me. Boy, this honing thing sure has a learning curve

There you go, Donald! We should hand out pins for a honing milestone like this. It's all coming into focus now.
