Is this blade restorable?
Hello friends. Long time lurker, first time poster. After nagging my wife for years about getting a straight razor, she finally gave in and bought me one for Christmas from SRD. I have been straight razor shaving for the last two months and I love it. My wife(bless her heart) bought me a Filarmonica from Craigslist and gave it to me as a gift today. I am very thankful but I have no clue how to restore it or have the tools. There is very little to no rust on it but it does have this tar like substance at the top of the blade and tang. The scales are in great shape. Does anyone think this is worth restoring and if so where to send it to thats not going to cost me my tuition(grad student). thanks all for your help!

Thanked: 50Before I decide what I'm going to do with any blade, no matter the shape, I have a go at it with some Mothers. Before sanding or grinding and anything else. Get the gunk off and then decide. I've had a couple of pleasant surprises.
You could have a winner and certainly have one with your wife, if she bought you a Filarmonica.
