Preserving Ivory.
The big thread about telling ivory from bone has dovetailed into something that's been on my mind a lot lately.
What happens to my razor collection when I die? Ideally, I'd like it to go to some sort of museum collection, which is fine and likely very achievable for the great majority of what I've got.
However, the ivory-scaled razors present a special challenge. It's my understanding that, legally, there are a good number of restrictions on the movement and display of ivory by public institutions. That ivory pieces need documentation verifying their age and provenance, and that getting the proper paperwork is challenging.
How does restoration impact the legal status of ivory?
I understand that, for personal ownership, most of this is less important, but I'm thinking about the long, long game.
Would there be a place for a small non-profit dedicated to getting information to razor owners on how to document their ivory?-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

That doesn't really surprise me.
I worry about potential future restrictions though, and figure that now's a good time to start trying to figure out a better solution. Are there legislative bodies that I should be sidling up to and boring to death with my endless stories about straight razors?-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

There are exceptions to everything.
Scientific research and Museums have a relaxed standard. I'm not sure if it's in the CFR but the OIs for Customs and Fish and Wildlife allow very limited exceptions. All such applications by these entities are very very closely scrutinized and restricted so no the director of the Smithsonian can't go to Africa and bring back a tusk.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
