Thanked: 0I just got my first Henckels and another member linked this. Shows that red trademark to be post 1969. Nice razor tho. http://straightrazorpalace.com/srpwi...Henckels,_J._A.

Yeah I highly doubt the story. It's probably total BS. But nice razor. I have a Henckels and it's pretty nice, although I have yet to get it to shave well (just honed it up a bit, so it should shave good now, I just haven't tried it yet).

That link didn't work for me but this did: J. A. Henckels - Straight Razor Place Wiki
I suppose it could have been stolen from an officer in the 70s from a survivor, but that would be quite a stretch

Thanked: 3164Like Skelp says, that logo is 1969 onwards:
at least according to J A Henckels own website, anyway.

Thanked: 1Well it's a shame the story behind my first old(er) razor doesn't check out.
Sod it.
I spend a couple of hours working on it and I'm well pleased with the results.
Worked on it with 80, 120, 320, 600, 1k and 2k paper and gave it a final polish with some paste.
All the pitting is gone and it looks pretty much new.
Much better than in the pics in fact:
My norton 1k + 4/8k stones are arriving in a couple of weeks.
I'll report back on how well it shaves then.
Thanks for the info and help fellas!

Thanked: 3222At the very least it cleaned up real well. Good luck with the honing, I'll bet it will be a sweet shaver.

Thanked: 1Cheers Bob!
I do a lot of work on knives but never attempted to restored a razor before.
I'm chuffed with how it turned out.
If anyone can tell me more about this razor I'd appreciate it.
Looking at prices for J A Henckels razors I think I may have got a reasonable deal after all (holocaust missing)
PS
the seller just told me he found 2 J A Henckels razors after rummaging in the attic
one has the 1810 and the other the 1850 mark
pics to follow...Last edited by vjanda; 03-12-2013 at 07:43 PM.

Thanked: 1Thx. I wish the pics showed how nice it really looks. They don't do it justice.
I started off with 320 grit but soon realized I'd spend days at it at that pace.
The 80 did the hard work pretty quick leaving quite deep scratches.
At that stage I thought I might have ruined the it but they came out after some elbow grease.
I used Purol Universal metal polish paste on a cloth for the final finish.Last edited by vjanda; 03-12-2013 at 10:33 PM.
