    Question Hen & Rooster

    Hey all,
Long time reader, new poster. I got into the hobby with a razor bought new about 7 years ago from a local cutlery shop. It's a high carbon blade of some description with a white plastic set of scales. Both the scales and the razor have a silver "Hen & Rooster" emblazoned on them. I can't find any info on them anywhere.

Been having trouble putting an edge on it with my new set of Nortons and wondering if these are worth the upkeep. Pics to follow.

If you have the "Hen and Rooster" razor that I have somewhere, it is no good and will not hone up. Sorry for the bad news, the good news is this, there are some excellent razors in the classifieds section of this site. Have fun and ask all of the questions you want.

It really depends on what Hen & Rooster you have. The old vintage H & R were great. Later Frost Cutlery IIRC bought the brand name. Some of the early Frost Cutlery H & Rs were Solingen made. I have one and it is a good shaver. Has pick bone scales and Solingen with the the H&R logo etched on the blade.

Later Frost moved production to Spain and those razors have not received good reviews from what I've seen. Whether they are still made there or were moved yet again I don't know. Perhaps if you feel it is worth the $ mail it to one of the members who offers honing in the SRP classifieds. Unless you have enough confidence in your own honing that you would be sure it would shave through your own efforts.
