Default Help Identifying This Robert Klaas Straight Razor

Wondering if anyone knows much about this razor? I haven't been able to find much info on this specific model. Would really like to know a year and if anyone has any info on the scales being original and quality of the blade. I think the scales are real ivory, but I'm not 100% certain. Looking to have it honed so I can use it, but trying to learn as much about it as I can first. I need to get a couple photos with a ruler, but wanted to post what I have. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to SRP. The scales are celluloid for sure. I doubt if they are original , though they are probably close to the age of the blade. I doubt it because they don't have a pin at the wedge end. In the old days barber supply salesmen would go from barber shop, to barber shop and did scale replacement on site. For ease of replacement a lot of their scales only had a pin at the pivot. I could be wrong about that though.

Kissing Cranes, Robert Klaas is a very old name in Solingen cutlery dating back to the 1700s. I would peg your razor at the early part of the 20th century because of the Prussia stamp, but I could be wrong about that too. What I do know for sure, is that Kissing Crane made a hell of a good shaver and once honed up you'll have a nice razor.

Klaas, Robert - Straight Razor Place Wiki You probably already found this, but just in case.

    distinguish bone, ivory and celluloid

Those scales aren't ivory. Follow the hotlink, and scroll down to the celluloid chips. They do look original to the razor though. There's not a lot of information on models of razor. The only thing you're likely to find is information on the manufacturer. Although there are some fellahs here who have an outstanding knack for finding old advertisements with pics of different models. I'm not one of those though.

Looks like it can be a nice razor. And judging my the amount of posts with Rob Klaas in the title, a fairly popular brand. It will need a little extra honing, to pass through all the raggedy stuff. But looks like it'll be fine to me.

Congratulations on the razor. It is of good quality and nice condition too. Even the scales are really nice.
I doubt you will regret sending it out for honing.
It should prove to be a very capable shaver.

Thanks a ton for the info. Now I need to pick someone to send it to for honing and get some supplies. I want to do a couple shaves with it first before I make the dive with the strops and compounds.
