    Default Razor roll question

I got this nifty vintage leather razor roll included with an auction I won a couple of weeks back. It cleaned up OK, and after some mink oiling, it seems like it'll be quite usable.

Problem is, I'm not quite sure how it's supposed to fasten. I'm thinking I'm missing a piece of the roll. Can anyone explain how it's supposed to work?

There are two flaps, which you can see best in the photo that includes my hand.

Suggestions would be much appreciated. I've been wanting something like this for a long time.

Tie it with a leather chord, or slip it into a pocket somewhere.

Tying it with some type of cord should do the trick. Be careful to avoid cinching it too tightly or you might warp the scales.

My initial thought was to tie it with a cord or thong too. But it doesn't look like that is how this was used. There does appear to be some wear so there should be a visible band where a cord was tied. I think there might have been a matching belt for the case, unless there is something about those buttonhole straps I can't see. They look like they would be perfect for a pair of cuff links though. I would guess there was a belt that went through the loop on the right hand flap and around the roll to buckle in the middle.
