Vintage Soviet Razors
I've noticed a few vintage Soviet razors, that seem to be from the 60's, on ebay lately. Anyboby know if these razors are any good, steel quality, etc.?
I've seen some pretty interesting scale designs on some of them, and am getting intrigued. So if you've ever come across one of these, please let us know what you think."The ability to reason the un-reason which has afflicted my reason saps my ability to reason, so that I complain with good reason..."

I've got a few and they are good. The specimens I have tend to be hard steel, which is probably a good thing. In seeing them on the bay over the last few years I would say watch out for hone wear. Of course we should do that with any razor but I've noticed what seemed like a high percentage of Russian razors put up for sale with a lot of wear. Naturally I pass on those. My grandparents were from Russia so that is why I was especially interested in the first place.

I only have one, but it is *very* good. I have a couple dozen usable razors, and generally keep about 3 razors in regular rotation. This one worked its way into my top 3 immediately. So naturally I'll be looking for more...
I have noticed quite a few pop up on the bay lately, but since I've blown my RAD budget for the next little while, I won't be bidding against anyone.
Here's mine:
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

That's good to hear, because I found one that I really like. I know that the Soviets was obviously big into manufacturing, I just wasn't sure about the quality of their steel. Thanks for the input... now off to blow some money.

This probably has nothing whatever to do with razors, but speaking of Russian or Soviet manufacturing .... during WWII the Germans had their panzers and the Soviets the T-34. The German tanks were far better finished and made with tighter tolerances. The Soviet T-34 was roughly finished, loose tolerances. The Soviets were able to produce far more units than the Germans and while the panzers broke down due to muddy or dusty conditions the T-34 was like a Glock. Just kept on going regardless of the conditions it was exposed to.

I don't know about their razor quality, but their weapons quality is second to none , in most cases.
