W&B Fine India Steel (Score!)
All--I have just scored a sweet-looking W&B Fine India Steel wedge from ebay:
Does anyone know if there was a particular time when these were manufactured? My guess would be sometime around the 1870s--I have read about the Wootz factory and the (perhaps over-hyped) quality of India steel... but was unable to come up with any dates.
Thanks in advance!Last edited by Corgi; 04-01-2013 at 04:13 AM.

Nice blade. AFAIK, the India steel was most likely marketing. Whether the steel was sourced from India or not, I doubt it was Wootz. I have a 'Fine India Steel' etched W&B so if it turns out that one of our experts verifies the Wootz/India angle I'll be as happy as you. One way or the other, outstanding shavers IME.

Thanked: 28Nice score mate =] Hope you didn't bleed too much on the price I've been trying to find a cheap WnB for a while now but there seems to be too much demand for em. I agree with JimmyHAD on the marketing thing I'm sure I've read the same thing mentioned more than a few times. But yeah surely Manah or Martin or another one of the great SRP Cutlery historians shall be able to shed some light on the matter
