    Default Razor shrouded in mystery

    Gentlemen, this is my razor, a supreme 13/16 French razor without the manufacturer's name engraved anywhere. There is only the emblem. I don't recognize it. Perhaps you do. Who made this razor? Thanks.

    Obie, A fine looking razor for sure!, That said that marked if from "CHAIZE-MAILLOT" A cutlery firm from Thiers founded in 1735. Here their registered trademarks.

    Martin, my friend, bless your heart for the research. I knew you'd come through. So then I would assume we'll be safe to call it a 13/16 razor manufactured in France by Chaize-Maillot. Would you concur?

    Absolutely, A Chaize-Maillot from Thiers, France, Enjoy! I would gamble that this razor is a fine shaver somewhat like a Le Grelot!

    Good show, Martin. The razor is quite well made and uses superb steel. I have five Le Grelot. So we can mark this one Le Grelot's cousin. Best of all, the name Chaize-Maillot sounds as sweet as rich cream on a French pastry.

    It certainly sounds better than "McRazor," which is where my puny little mind went with the initials.

    Yes, the name has a musical sound, doesn't it? I like that. Of course, I have a soft spot for French razors. I mean who can resist Peroux-Cognet? Or St. Etienne Armes et Cycle. Or our good friend Chaize-Maillot. Or Le Grelot. Last year I gave up several French razors, for which I kick my own tokhus. Wish I had kept them. Before that I gave up several Thiers-Issards. Not a good decision. But I keep an eye out for French razors of all brands.
