Vibrators were one of the first electric appliances available. For therapeutic use, I'm sure.

One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

Gentlemen, let's keep it clean and stick to the topic (albeit a strange one to bring up on a Straight razor forum) of vibrating razors

Lol, how is it a strange topic? The razor's are sold with vibrators... and as to what therapeutic use a razor with a vibrator has I'm left clueless as I was under the impression you wanted to use light confident efficient strokes when shaving not light speed vibrating mini strokes which could cause your 5 blades to pass a 1 inch margin on your face 5000x more than with a single stroke LOL - maybe they thought that by doing this it would allow the blades to exfoliate the skin also? I dunno.

Well I've used the pro glide and loved the shave, just expensive since the second shave wasn't as nice. As for the vibrating feature I believe it might be a gimmick but who knows.

Still prefer my straights and de razors :-)

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned yet but I don't think Gillette is the first to come up with this. I have a Stahly vibrating DE 1945-50's? (ebay usually has a few up for sale), only it's mechanical you wind it up no battery required. I've seen other vintage razors that wind up and vibrate, not sure what the brands were though. I just thought they were neat, considering we need batteries or electric to operate most thing's today. The shave if I remember, wasn't anything special, although the razor did seem to glide on my face a little easier. I might have to dust it off tomorrow and give it a go again tomorrow.

They generally work fine. I wondered if the vibration helped unclog the blades while rinsing.

I'm often baffled by how silly and bellicose people are toward these razors, and how the community shelters their opinions with the letters YMMV.

I personally think it is just something to help usher in the feeling of "something new". I used to shave with one of the vibrating disposable razors, before switching over to a de and subsequently, a straight. I may be an oddball, but I have always gotten a fine shave with any type of razor. Sure, my de and straight give me a more enjoyable, closer shave, but I never brushed off the disposable cartridge style razors as being inadequate. Expensive, for sure, but not so much terrible. For me, it started out as a search to find a more economical way to shave and, like a lot of guys here, found out that shaving can be less of a "chore" and more of an opportunity for some me time. That being said, I'm less of a collector and more of a practical type shaver. My wife likes the fact that I haven't had a beard for years, now, and I generally, "smell nice". YMMV, lol.

Maybe the Wade and Butcher Barber's Rattler was the first vibrating razor.

I had a remington electric razor back in the early nineties. It actually took two de blades. It was way too scary to use when it was vibrating.
