I'm not a collector. For me straight razors are still kind of things they once were made to be: cheap or moderately priced everyday shaving things for everyman. Sort of a toothbrush or work knife.

Current prices tell only that straight razor shaving has become sort of a hype. Fashion. And as soon someone tells here (or any other shaving related site) about the superiority about this or that brand the prices will skyrocket. Of course it's a question of supply and demand as well.

I haven't bought razors for years but when i did, DD's and many other famous brands were usually about USD 30-40 or less. DD's are surely great shavers but not that good. Basically i think there are so many not-so-famous brands or even nameless ones to give a shave as good. It's about honing and shaving techniques as well.

If i were to buy razors now, i would look from internet auction sites other than English language. Razors (as many other hype things) are still modestly prices. From one of my domestic sites you can find good Swedish/Finnish/German/Russian razors for 5-10 €.
