Thread: Does anyone have information on this Blade " Frank E. Hunt"

Hello looking for information about a Blade I acquired today and unable to find any information the box says Frank E. Hunt Red Lake Falls Minn. and on one side of the blade it's etched Hunt's Choice and the blade say's it's made in Germany I can't seem to find any information about the manufacturer. any information would be greatly appreciated thank you all.

Frank Hunt operated a store in Red Lake Falls, MN, where he was also a county official and a board member of the bank. Like so many merchants in the early part of the 20th century, Frank sent off to Germany to have razors made with his store's name stamped on the tang. These razors were very inexpensive and were, usually, from an unknown manufacturer. These razors are generally of good quality and make decent shavers. But they sure caused a lot of economic headaches for the American razor makers of that time.

The general rule of thumb on this forum is: No picture = no razor. What that means is that is hard to evaluate a razor without a descriptive photo to base an evaluation on. Generally, your razor was probably made sometime between the world wars (1920s-30s). This was the time when Germany was flooding the market with very inexpensive razors and the U.S. manufacturers were petitioning Congress to levy a tariff on imported razors to level the playing field. German razors were selling for a dollar a dozen and U.S. makers were estimating that they would have to reduce a worker's wages 60% in order to compete with the flood of razors from Germany.
