    Default Fried engels solingen razor

    Hey guys,
I bought a straight razor off of ebay for a possible bday present,
It's an F.W.E Special fried engels perfection razor.
I paid ~47, which was a bit more than I was hoping to spend.
Since I know nothing about straight razors, I was hoping I could get some input.
    Here are some pics:

What do you guys think of this? Is it a good razor?
I know it's difficult to see with these pics, but are there any visible flaws with this razor?
If I wanted to get it refurbished, would the engravings make it difficult?
And mainly out of curiosity, is this worth the money I spent?

    Thanks.

If there is no bad pitting on the edge it should with a little care come out shining and probably be a superb shaver!
If you are restoring it yourself and have no experience of it, then go slow and ask a lot!

Welcome to SRP. I think it is not a 'Special' but a Perfection. Not a bad thing as any that FWE made are first class shavers. We don't do appraisals on SRP. Looking at completed ebay listings for the same item is the best bet on that. If I was keeping that razor for myself I'd use a metal polish such as Maas, Flitz or Semichrome , on a paper towel, Q-tips, to clean it up as best I could. Hone it and that would be 'good'. To go further into resto, beyond just honing it, would probably cost you as much or more as you've already paid for it.

It will be a stellar shaver, once honed, either way. IOW, full restoration or the paper towel metal polish route. Whether the full treatment is worth the $ is something only you can decide. The remaining gold wash will not stand up to the metal polish BTW. If you want a competent job done on it take a look in the SRP classifieds 'member services'.
