Thanked: 9knifecenter TI... deal too good to be true?
Hello, first time poster here! After a few months with my whipped dog, I'm addicted and ready to upgrade. SWMBO is letting me pick out a razor for a birthday present. (Wooooohoooo!) In my research, I came across this TI Eagle going for $185:
Thiers-Issard Eagle Brand Straight Razor 5/8" blade Red Staminawood Handle France - KnifeCenter
However, I noticed that these bad boys are going for double the price at other sites that specialize in straight razors. Is this deal too good to be true? Does anyone have experience with knife center? I realize I will need to send it out for honing, but I'm afraid I'll receive a blade thats warped or damaged. Thoughts?
Thanks guys!

Welcome to SRP. The description mentions 2009 so they may be looking to move old stock. The one review is not very complimentary of the razor he received. OTOH, there is a 60 day return (in original packaging and new condition) so the worst you could lose is the shipping charges.
I've got a number of TI razors that I bought new in the past 5 years. Some of them were perfect , others has minor QC issues in the fit and finish of the scales or the blades. None of them were bad enough for me to return. I'm happy with all of them but I do shake my head and wonder if they aren't drinking a bit too much vino at lunch time.

Thanked: 9Well, SWMBO got impatient with my research, so she just went ahead and chose the razor off my short list that she liked the best, haha. So now, I'll be getting a Dovo Special. However, she found one in 6/8. I can't be mad considering they've discontinued it! Oh well, I'll have to just give myself a TI for my birthday.

This part of the Overview "sharper and more beautiful than ever with a new sharpening system" has me scratching my head.

Seems strange they would have a razor sitting around there for 4 years. Maybe it's a return or defect (har-har defect=TI).

Thanked: 9Thanks for the quick help guys. I'm going to stay away from KnifeCenter and wait (im)patiently for "the one" to become available at a quality vendor that ships shave ready. For now, I'll try to be happy with just my Special.
Man, I really feel the AD's kicking in. This site is great for my face but terrible for my wallet.

This is a bit late, but I've ordered from Knifecenter a few times & would feel comfortable buying there again. Never a straight, but knives & other gear. Haven't needed to return anything, but shipping & response time to emailed inquiries have been swift. You can usually find a coupon code by googling.
Good luck with the Dovo! I'm new myself and started with a vintage 6/8 that's been good for everything except my wallet (as now I'm hooked!)
