I would go with the Dovo silver steel, I have the same one from the same place...."vintage blades" and it shaves great, and you cant beat the price. And yes it will be the first of many....and many....and even more:-)))
Ps....get yourself a good strop, that's as important as the razor IMO.Last edited by Brettnj; 05-05-2013 at 07:01 PM.
If you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything.

Strop is next as well as brush.
Haven't decided on material, but I am getting a 3" Strop.
As far as brush, probably the bulb shape Pure Badger.
Any suggestions on Material on strop would be great as well as Brush material.

Any strop from straight razor design will do the trick. The three inch is certainly the way to go as well. If you are getting a hollow ground blade, a hanging strop opposed to a paddle strop is a better choice as it allows for better stropping to do the flexibility of the leather not being mounted to wood.
As for brush, that's always going to be personal preference. I used a boar brush for a while and got a badger. I recently took the boar brush on a trip and thought "How did I ever use this?" You can get a fine badger brush for $30-$40.
From what I can tell in the pictures, all the razors you have gathered have rounded points. In my experience, though limited, rounded blades are far more forgiving on certain areas like by the ears and neck. It would probably be in your best interest to order from SRD if possible. They offer a free honing when you buy one of their razors and your razor is shave ready as well. Depending on how often you shave, you should be able to have more than six months of a shave-ready blade.

Picking your 1st... Remember that sometimes it picks you. Sometimes it's the 1st sometimes the 51st. Just keep looking and trying and it'll happen.
(Or was that dating?(:-( as you get older these selection processes seem to flow together)

Very nice looking set. I'm sure you have read somewhere along the line that razors stored in your bathroom is not the ideal mix. The amount of moisture that builds up from steam, not to mention numerous faucets can do some damage to your razor.

Thanks, Hadn't thought of that. Luckily I had planned to keep in the bedroom because I got 5 kids in the house.
