New to me DD Dwarf that is bigger than the rest...

I just got another DD Dwarf last night off Ebite. I knew it had a small chip on the tip from the picture, but didn't know the reason for it... Seems this one has been re-scaled and poorly at best. Also who ever did the work assumed the Dwarf was the same as the others... Nope it's not a 5/8 I just mesured it and it's a 6/8 thus sticking just a tad out the bottom of the thin plastic scales. Now I got this for a reasonable price and the seller didn't hide anything I would consider sneaky, so I left Pos feedback.

Now I need to decide how to go about this. How rare is a Pearlduck 6/8 DD Dwarf Spike Point? It has very light hone wear so I know this will last me along time but I don't want to grind off alot of material if it's that rare.

This is also in line to get new scales when I find the right material. I'm talking to Butch "Harner knives" to see if his mycarta is workable for scales.

Not sure how to interpret this - I'd say it is rare, but so what?

1) If you want to sell to a collector and make some $ - it's probably best to just leave it as is.

2) If you want to use it - I'd probably leave it 6/8 and only round the tip a bit

Well it's not going anyware thats for sure. But I look at rare items a bit differently than others I guess. To me a rare item is something that needs to be charrished a bit. We are only it's gaurdian till the next person comes along to care for it. Thus keeping it in as good a condition as I can so the next person to recieve it gets many years of enjoyment from it as well.

Not to say that common items are disposable, not in the least. I just don't baby them as much and don't think about it's condition as critically.

I picked this up from when I was actively collecting older silver coins.

Personal choice of mine: leave the edge / width and round the tip, as I said.

If you leave the chip it's probably not going to be safe to use (unless you want to just keep it and not use it at all?) If you take off the 1/8 or so - I'd think this would be more of an issue and you are losing the nice factory edge that you now have on the blade.

If that chip is really RIGHT at the tip, just round it off. If it's in more than 1/8" or so and would result in a "stubbed toe", then you should start grinding it down. Pics would help. Rescale it with the micarta if you like. The stuff makes very good scales by report.

So what about it makes it a dwarf? Is it shorter than normal? If its not smaller than a normal blade its not a dwarf, maybe a mis stamp on the blade or something. Post some pics.

Here are a few pics I just made showing the 3 dwarf's I have so far. The smallest dwarf is my shaver. Apon useing more than one ruler I think the new dwarf is 11/16". It's is closer to the one I got off X.

I would not say this is a small chip!

Looking at this there is no way I would reduce the whole length of the cutting edge. Nothing left but to shorten it, imo. It may feel very weird for full shaves (as I learned from a W&B meatchopper that I "fixed") but may work well for details?

That other one - this is NOTHING! Just do some circles on 1000 wet/dry tip only and round it up a tad
