Filarmonica dates?
I'm waiting on a 14 FILARMONICA ESPECIAL JOSE MONSERRAT POU, I would like your help in putting a date of manufacture on the razor if possible, I have a picture of the razor and the original case I'm thinking pre 50s or 1960s I would be grateful of any info, I will put up some pictures when the razor arrives the razor looks in fantastic condition as little to no hone wear a full 25mm 8/8 blade.
Jamie.

Hi Jamie,
thanks for posting your pics of such an amazing razor.
Many of these early models had no country of production stamp on the reverse side of the tang.
That alone is a good indication that this razor is pre-1950s approx.
What I find most interesting about this razor are the scales.
All the JMP Especials that I have come across had bakelite scales without a name or escutcheon.
The photo of the JMP Especial with green scales on this thread (http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...-alliance.html) are not original to that razor (the translucent scales were used b/w 60s and 70s - my guestimation).
I would guess that the scales on your razor with the harp escutcheon is from the transitional time when Jose started to emphasize the name Filarmonica more than his name.
His first razors (in Spain) to my knowledge were the JMP and the JMP Especial which you have.
I think his Imperial line (judging by the scales) co-existed at the same time as these JMPs, and my guestimate on their production timeline for these razors falls between 1917-1930 ish.
I would place your razor late 1930s to early 1940s.
If you could confirm what material your scales are when they arrive that would be a good indication.
I am still chasing info on these master craftsmen which is very very hard to find.
I hope this is of some use.
Shane
