The same guy who invented the barber notch called them monkey tails ..... he was going to explain why but got hit by a train .....
Kidding aside, I've seen them called that long before SRP. First one I remember referred to that way was a De Pews 'perfect razor' with the really long tail. Not sure if that razor may have begun the expression. Maybe one of our resident historians has some leads on the origin of the term.
