Thanked: 5Extant manufacturers - standard razors
Hello, everybody! I'm new to the forums, though I did a good bit of lurking here a while back while figuring out straight razor shaving.
The question for today: what companies are currently manufacturing standard straight razors? I don't mean fancy custom pieces, but straightforward razors like the Dovo Best Quality or Boker Eidelweiss. One of the FAQs here at SRP claims that the only companies currently manufacturing straights are Dovo, Boker, & Thiers-Issard. But I've seen other manufacturers on shop websites (eg, Ralf Aust) so I don't know if that list is comprehensive.
I'm trying to figure out the "universe of options" (as my Peruvian coworker would say). I'm not going to dive into collecting but I do need a couple more razors to build a rotation and I thought it'd be nice to start with the basic shaver from each extant company.
Best,
Alex

Hi there, and welcome. I am assuming you mean production razors... Very few companys today make straights in mass production. You will fill even the known companies mostly offer special LE razors along side a few basic models. Yes you are right that dovo, TI and böker are not the only game in town, but they sure are the major producers.
I understand you are looking to get tenuniversebof options but what you asked kin of narrowed the field from the universe to a small town.... You asked for a nothing fancy, standard production razor, I assume new. That being said, there is no universe just a few affordable models to choose from... If that what your looking for you are bet off sticking with the big 3 named above any way.
As for you not collecting, we'll see if the RAD bug gets you....
When I bought my first razor I remember saying to myself this is the last razor ill vet have to buy. That was true... But then I said a couple more tithe rotation... Then I said 7 day set..... Once I realized 7 wasn't enough I realized RAD was real.
Good luck! And welcome!!Last edited by JoeLowett; 06-10-2013 at 01:59 AM.

Thanked: 5Thanks, yall!
Martin, I actually own a Hart Steel - but it doesn't suit me very well, which is what set me off looking for the basics.*
(*Personal preference, I reckon. Quality is top notch.)

don't forget Revisor. Herr Kronenberg is actually a member here iirc. good reviews here in the forum (from what I found when I looked), and from personal experience I can attest that my 6/8 thumb notched Revisor is both great looking and a fine shaver. will definitely get another one of these days. there's a Revisor razor club here if you'd like to have a look and read opinions

Alex:
As already noted, Revisor has good selection of razors, and owner Herr Kronenberg is a gentleman. Also try Wacker razors at the Shaving Shop. Ralf Aust is an excellent razor, too. You've already mentioned Thiers-Issard, Boker and Dovo. It's slim pickings these days, especially when once upon a time there were hundreds of razor manufacturers in Germany, England, America and scores of other countries.
By the way, welcome to Straight Razor Place.

Thanked: 5Thanks for the additional options, grizli & Obie. One question: what are some good websites that carry Revisor? I haven't seen them anywhere I've looked.

Thanked: 5Thanks, Neil. That site is pretty much the opposite of user-friendly! But now I have the source.
