I got burned! :(
So I should have known better.. I was at an antique mall last weekend and I got some pretty cool razors ( I'll show them off in the show and tell section.) One of the razors was a C-Mon blackie I already knew was over paying for but I just had to grab it because it looked fairly nice. I was getting it to use for myself for a while but ultimately was going to give it to my younger brother. I looked at it over at the shop and it looked fine. When I got home I saw that there was a very fine hairline crack towards the heel. I want to think the dealer didn't know but I can't help to think I was getting burned. I'm annoyed because with the money I got that razor with I could have gotten a sweet razor from here.. you live and you learn. Now I have a nice paper weight -.-

I don't know your experience level/how much work you are willing to put out for it, but you could grind from the crack back to the heel all the way. It would be a strange shortie, but it might be kind of cool. Worst comes to worst, you would still have a paper weight
JimmyHAD:My wife told me if I bought another razor she would leave me ........ and I miss her sometimes......

Thanked: 2591The antique mall close to me has a perfect C-Mon Blackie except it had a crack similar to that one.
They also wanted 40 bucks for it....Stefan

Thanked: 522That looks like the edge is a bit uneven. Might even have a slight frown in it. Straighten the edge, set a good bevel and hone up. See if it shaves. That crack might not affect the shave. There is always a chance, give it a try. Nothing to lose.
The crack will get shorter after straightening the edge and more so after a good honing. OR, make a carving tool out of it. I would at least give it a try just for fun.

I'd suggest you get an eye loupe. I learned when I used to collect pocket knives in the 1970s to carry a jeweler's loupe when I was going 'hunting'. At that time a 14x B&L. Came in very handy for examining tang stamps on knives as well as bevels on razors.

I keep a cheap loop in the console of my car; never know when your going to get flagged down by an antique mall.
