    Default Monograms

    Good morning gents,
What do y'all think about monogramming razors? Do you think it takes away from the value of the razors/ look of the razors? I have one engraved dovo and love it but I'm unsure of doing more. What does everyone think?
Any responses will be much appreciated- thanks in advance!
    Tony
Btw- what I mean by value is if I wanted to trade up one or if I needed money bad enough that I needed to sell a few pieces- I'm not asking for a valuation!

I typically shy away from anything that has been monogrammed, unless of course it has my initials! I have passed on a few vintage watches and tend to ignore straights that have them, unless I am really interested or the monogram is only on the scales. In that case, I consider the effort involved in replacing them.

Maybe I'm not the right guy to answer you since I don't own a single monogrammed item of my own. I do own a number of razors that have their former owner's name or initials scratched into the scales. These are all vintage razors and it has never affected the way I value them as I am more concerned with the quality of the blade versus the identity of a former owner. It does add some to the mystique of a 200-year-old razor in my imagination, but not in my pocketbook. If you are worried about the future value of your razor, then I wouldn't do it. If you intend to keep it and pass it on to your family and it makes you happy . . go for it.

    Regards - Walt

I think that you're both right- I'm going to stay away from the monograms on the razor blade itself; however the scales are different story, and as well I might put some kind of etching on the blade like some kind of scrollwork.
    Thanks for the input guys!

I have a razor that has 'Mr Hooper' scratched into the horn scales. I actually like that because I think it gives it some character and history, not that I know who Mr Hooper was (or is) but still...
