Practice blade brands
Anybody have recommendations for brands of straights that would most likely be on the inexpensive side that I could use to shave, but could do most of my practive stropping/honing with (as I am a newbie). I figured to start out with I would purchase a "good" blade that will be pre-honed by Lynn or Tony, and a practice blade to compare my honing/stropping with? This sound like a good idea?
Any suggestions where I should go about finding them, and how much money you think I should spend?
Thanks for any help in advance - since I have joined SRP everyone have been extremely friendly and helpful - thanks everyone!

I'd say this is a very good idea. $10 on eBay for anything made in Solingen Germany, Sheffield England, Eskeltuna Sweden or Thiers France.

There are too many brands to recommend specific ones. Its easier to say the most popular ones you won't get for a good price unless your lucky. Just look for the little known brands in the smaller sizes. I don't think you'll find something you can really use for shaving for less than $25.00 or so though unless your able to do some major costmetic work on it.

There are bargains to be had out there particularly in the 5/8 size category, I just picked this one up for $5 and it didn't need much work on arrival. This razor had zero corrosion and cleaned up nicely.
The photo is from the listing, before the razor was cleaned.

Thanked: 346There are still a lot of great deals on ebay, especially in the 5/8 size. Two of my best razors were < $15, one was NOS and the other was both in excellent condition and wearing ivory scales.

You guys know anything about the company "Master"?
DMS - any good advice when looking at stuff on ebay? Is it just looking at pictures for imperfections, checking the descriptions, and if you find one that looks good, praying that you're not missing something or being scammed?
