Default Your travel razor and backup

    Gentlemen:

I will depart early Friday morning for the Mid-Missouri soiree at Lynn's mansion in Cape Girardeau. This morning I packed my wet pack for the trip. I always pack one straight razor with strop and a backup razor. (On an extended trip, I also take along a barber's hone.) In the past, my backup was a double edge razor. These days, however, my backup is the Feather Artist Club stainless steel with Pro Guard blades. The straight razor for this weekend's trip is the 5/8 NOS Hamlin & Co.'s Bohlerstahl (photos below.) By the way, the brush is the 22 mm Thater silvertip and the travel tube by Simpson. The cream, not shown, is the Institute Karite. Plus other travel shaving goodies.

When traveling, gentlemen, what razor and backup do you pack?

    Obie,
That is a very handsome wet pack.

When traveling (which usually involves a flight), with checked baggage, I take my Dovo master's (6/8 Stainless), a TI paddle strop and a small Omega Boar brush, along with a tube of cream, usually Nivea.

If I do not take checked baggage (short trip), I will either not shave (if I'm not traveling for work) or (horror), I will sometimes use a disposable razor.

    Obie, lovely looking wet pack.

So far I've only travelled once with my straight and only have one of everything in any case, so it all went stuffed into shoes for protection. I did take my hanging strop and this went in between the hard case and cloth lining of my bag. The strop is nothing special so this didn't matter too much.

I travel a fair bit and I'm looking forward to seeing what other members post and getting some inspiration for the travel kit. Your pack looks ideal.

hi obie. haven't traveled a lot lately, but if I'm traveling to a prolonged stay in one place ( a few days in the same hotel or similar) I'd take my dovo BQ and boker paddle strop ( my BQ is the only razor I own with plastic, not wooden, scales). my current backup is my grandfather's Gillette slim. if flying or planning frequent location changes, as in living out of my pack, I'll just take the DE alone. that been said, I just ordered the Maggard razor mr1, to replace my slim for travel. I'd rather misplace or damage a current production EJ clone than a 50 year old razor I still remember my grandfather using. in any case my semogue 1305 and a tabac soap stick complete the set.
