Well, it IS a stubbie and New York is on it! I was hoping I could match up the maker or seller to the half-obliterated name on the spine from that list.
I suppose it is older than the list, tho!

You guys have good guesses! I think the J&C is likely. The A, O, S and I for certain. Hard to say!

C. Gascoigne was an english cutler who went to the US (Winsted, Connecticut) in 1852 and set up in the cutlery/knife making business with another Englishman, Thompson - Thompson & Gascoigne - the Eagle Works. Some items were just stamped 'C. Gascoigne' I am told. Thy went bust in 1854 and two years later Beardsley & Alvord set up the Empire Knife Co on the site.
