A beautiful stub tailed razor probably from the very late 1700s or very early 1800s. I don't know the maker, but that is a gorgeous work of art!

That's pretty incredible... Funny thing is the scales or so nice it's easy to over look what a nice, early warranted blade sits in them!
That's what I call a special occasion razor, not one for the rotation!......... Making Old Razors Shine N' Shave, Once Again.

I feel poleaxed.....in a good way. I think of the history of this razor of how it got from where it was made to the present caretaker.........thanks for the pics!

There seems to be a Russian connection to this razor with the double-headed eagle and the word cossack imprinted on the scales. I thought perhaps the razor might have been intended for export to Russia, but why would the English word cossack be used and not the Russian Казак? Maybe the pressed scales were just to give the razor a Russian mystique for domestic sales.

I believe that the scales are horn, not shell. Either way that razor is stunning and in very nice shape. One day I hope to have one similar! Nice find indeed.

It's far more likely to be pressed horn than turtle but can't really tell from the pictures.
Nice old razor though, you could even try to hone it up and see if it'll take a decent edge.

On closer look it appears to have been repinned. There is also an interesting mark or logo on the bottom right corner of the "shield" photo. It looks like 1W.
