Thanked: 3T I Grind
Sorry if this seems obvious but with respects to certain things i'm a real newbie. I have my eye on a new Thiers Issard and fancy a try at something other than a full hollow. I've noticed the half hollow they do which is an obvious one but I see some that have X-Thick. Is that likely to be wedge, near wedge, or quarter hollow?
Thanks in advance.

No one makes wedges or near wedges any more. I suspect even a custom maker wouldn't do one.
Probably extra thick refers to it being a very heavy blade. It should say what the grind is. I would guess part hollow. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 1195Do you have a link? IIRC the heaviest grind TI makes nowadays is 3/4 hollow (likely what they call 1/2 hollow), but I'm not sure.

Funny way to describe the grind as extra thick. Why don't they just say what it is? I would guess half or quarter hollow.

Thanked: 1195It's tough to say, considering they apparently don't like to show cross section pictures. One pic somewhat showed the toe end of an "X thick" razor, and to me it appeared to be what we would consider half hollow.
I suppose you could e-mail the vendor and ask, or better yet get them to send you a picture of the grind.
