Default Can someone please help me ID this razor.

I found this razor in my grandfathers gun safe. He said it was given to him long ago by his uncle this thing must be old. There are no markings on it anywhere and I can't find one that looks like it to compare.

Welcome to SRP, That razor surely looks similar to The Case Butterfly razor. John D.Case awarded patent for his butterfly razor on February, 8, 1881.

Very interesting to say the least, so where are you from? Actually where was your grandfather from?

We are from Louisiana. He said he thought it was from WW1. However I am not sure. It could be some knock off junk from china. He thinks it was his uncle Ellis's razor from the war. I have no idea I figured I would jump on google and find a million that looked just like it but Finding a picture or another one like it seems almost impossible.

There are no markings at all. I have no Idea what the scales are made of? I would think if it where the case butterfly it would have a marking on it. The inserts in the handle seem to be made out of brass if that helps.

This is just a longshot but ...... sometimes factories let employees make a knife or razor for themselves. Than there were also "lunch box specials" that were made and slipped out in the lunch bucket or whatever. Could be that the razor was made by the worker for himself and he didn't bother grabbing a blank that was tang stamped. Like I said, a longshot but possible for such an unusual piece.

Maybe some Blacksmith saw a Case and thought that is cool and made his own? Maybe Case copied his? We will probably never know.
