Thanked: 4Restore Opinions
I was out antique shopping the other day and came on a Puma 91 High Class. Needs some work, but wondering if is worth it to restore? I couldn't find out anything on age, search engines and I have a love hate relationship. What do you guys think?

Thanked: 1371It's really hard to tell from the pictures - they are pretty dark, and make it hard to see what's rust or what's just dark in the picture. If the blade is covered in rust, there's probably a lot of pitting underneath, and as best as I can tell from the pictures, it's into the bevel. If that's the case, I'd just knock the rust off to see, but I wouldn't be real hopeful.
If it's just light surface rust on some of the blade, your chances are pretty good.

Thanked: 4249Well Puma's are wonderful shavers, from the looks of the pictures, it seems like its only surface rust, its difficult to see the actual edge, if that is eaten by rust, it will need to go down to good metal before anything.
If you can get a clean bevel free of rust, then i would finish the rest.Last edited by Martin103; 07-04-2013 at 07:41 PM.

Thanked: 4From the looks of it, seems to never been honed or used, if it was it was very little. Looks like surface to my untrained eye but what do I know.

Thanked: 1371That looks better than I thought from the first pics.
It's worth taking the rust off to see what's under it.

Done way to many of these with those scales,,, I am pretty sure you have a case of Cell Rot, note the pattern in the rust, are the scales warped ????
Smell them, Sweet Vinegar smell ???
Hold them up to the light can you see the fibers in the Celluloid ??? if so are they in nice straight lines or are they curving ???
Is there a bulge under the Inlay ???Last edited by gssixgun; 07-04-2013 at 08:43 PM.

I've got to agree with Glenn, looks like cell rot. The other thing is, I rarely choose blades with gold on them for project razors, it can't be saved at lest with that much corrosion. There's a lot of razors out there waiting for some patient labor, I believe that one to be gone.. sorry.
