Thanked: 0Help Dating a Wade & Butcher
I received this Wade & Butcher wedge from my in-laws and need some help dating it. M-I-L said it had been in her family for some time. She remembers her grandfather using it. The homemade handle doesn't work very well and I offered to make scales for it, but she opted to keep it as is for sentimental reasons. I understood, although it would make a great shaver.
After searching though many previous W&B posts looking at dates and markings I did not come across any blades with similar stamping. Google didn't help much either. Note, there are no markings on the reverse.

I don't disagree with Martin that it may be a VR- but the shape and grind make me think it may be a bit earlier. If it is VR it was defiantly the beginning of her reign. That W&B tang stamp was used in early production. I would suspect 1830's. but the. Again 1840's isn't far off from that so who knows.

Thanked: 0Hey thanks for the info. That's the time period I was guessing. Now if I can just convince the M-I-L to let me put some scales on it.
