Looking for some info on this Dovo
I acquired this Dovo yesterday but I haven't been able to find out any real information about it. The etching reads "Dovo Extra" and a Google search doesn't bring back much. I figured it might mean extra hollow ground, but that's the best I was able to come up with. It also has a 6 stamped into the tang, and the back of the tang has the Dorp & Voos stamp as well.
Also, I'm assuming the etch will come off if I try to use some Mother's on the blade. Is this a safe bet?

Hi Jonah, I had the same predicament with this Krumm, there was very little gold wash left and I thought it
was more important to give the blade a good clean (with Mothers) rather than save the etching.
I'm happy with the result.
Bongo.

As far as I can tell, this isn't goldwash. That being said, I'm relatively certain it will come off if I try to use some Mothers. In all honesty, unless this is an uber rare razor, it is probably worth sacrificing the etch in order to spiffy up the razor.

Dorp-Voos were the owners until they sold it to Fritz Bracht before WWll. It may be a blank left over from Dorp-Voos (Dovo) that Fritz used after he owned the company, or it may have been made before they sold it. I have a 7 day set of identical razors and some have the Fritz Bracht on the reverse tang, while others have Dorp-Voos.
Either way, if it is not damaged it should be a super good shaver. IME semichrome, Flitz, Wenol and the like won't remove an etching if used with a paper towel. Get into some kind of buffing and I don't know. I've never used Mothers.

Thanks for the info, I thought it surprising that I couldn't find a single helpful link on this razor. I never would have thought that Dovo = Do(rp)+Vo(os). The Dovo Best I have shaves just fine, and this guy isn't damaged whatsoever. It could use a good clean up and honing, but otherwise it looks great. I'll pick up some Flitz and give it a rub. I would love to keep the etching if possible. The scales feel like plastic, but I will probably check to make sure they aren't celluloid to be 100% sure.
