I tried this (creams), but it didn't work at all well with my boar bristle brush. The badger brush did ok, but the boar brush just doesn't hold enough water or doesn't hold the lather as well or...

I do this with soaps (directly on the face) but I haven't had as much luck doing it with creams. I can get a good lather with creams either in the scuttle or hand though.
