I have never found any difference between the edge from Y/G and any of the other color grades of Eschers. That being said, for me the Gokumyio compares to a very high quality Jnat, only it cuts...

Paste will work differently than the hone.
Yes there is difference from 12k edge, as in if you really really want a smooth edge, usually you have to strop on paste after 12k , not after the Gokumyo.

The price is far from crazy, even less so when you experience the edge it produces.
