As a sidenote, I personally tried the Nubatama...
As a sidenote, I personally tried the Nubatama Ume 1K as well and it did seem harder and didn't slurry as quickly but the results were not markedly different.

My JNS 1K is definitely a soaker, I soak it for...
My JNS 1K is definitely a soaker, I soak it for 30 minutes before I use it.
I haven't had any issues as far as it not cutting, I do use it with medium slurry to start.
