Indeed. I would use epoxy in between. The pins would merely be to keep things aligned and to give some added strength.

guys, I am looking for gold pins and washers. Does anyone have a good source for them?
Google is decidedly unhelpful when searching for gold pins, gold rod or gold bar stock :)
