Don't know about acetone, but I used to use ammonia to degrease scales before applying CA.
Big mistake.
Try it if you have a scrap of purpleheart left.
It turns icky green. Not good. -

I tried the thick coating in the beginning, but found that it doesn't cure properly. -

Additionally, In the future you might want to do the rough grinding first before you shape the rest of the blade in detail.
When you are grinding it is easy to make minor mistakes....
