Brian's First Blade
Well gents, after participating heavily (possibly hijacking even) SFshaver's recent thread about making a blade, I put in my order at Enco for a piece of 1/4" O-1. I am in contact with Mike Blue, hopefully he won't quickly tire of my incessant questioning. I'm excited about this new project. I am going to be working with files on this first blade, mostly because I don't have the money to buy a grinder and assorted other stuff right now, but also because I am going to be gone a lot here in the next several weeks and I can take a steel blank and a clamp and files with me.
Keep an eye on this thread for my entire first build. Now I just have to eagerly await my steel delivery! WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!

Thanked: 170You'd have a hard time finding a better source of info than Mike - his help has been invaluable to me. Good luck! The guys back in the old days used files - I'm just too darn impatient to try it that way!

He's been a big help already for sure! My first order for the 1/4" that I placed online last night didn't go through for some reason, so I called in my order today for a piece 5/16 x 1 1/4 x 18. Like he said, easier to take metal away than put it back on!
I'm impatient too, but I'm even more clumsy and poor, so I'd mess something up in a hurry with a grinder even if I could afford one! Lol. I'll stick to files and a sen.

Oh holy crap, I just checked the Enco website and realized I had tracking info for UPS on there. Guess what's sitting on my porch at home? Yeah, that's right, a big ol' chunk o' O1! Took around 36 hours from order to delivery. That's damn great service there! Now I have to get off work in 38 hours, get my files, knock out my wife so she doesn't interrupt, finish Paco/Brian's Thistle cut and then get started!!

Thanks, I love it too! That coat says "my grandpa is a PAG seed corn dealer". I used to wear that coat when I was his age.
Here's the same little tractor nearly 22 years ago with me and my brother and sister. My sister was 9 months older than my son is now in this picture.
