Patterns laid out on steel! Woot woot! Let's get the party started! Alb, I'm going to have to get some more steel to do my other razor anyway, so we'll talk about your razor. .
Cutting them out is going to take a bigger bandsaw than I have. There just isn't enough extra steel around the blades to drill holes and use a hack saw either. I'm really really excited now! Seeing them on steel makes it real. I can't wait to have the blanks in my hands. This is exciting and scary all at the same time. Lol.
Shown are the blanks, attended by a few of my daughters' Littlest Pet Shop animals. lol. Those girls are nuts. I call them domestic terrorists when they flash the baby blues. I tell them, " I don't negotiate with terrorists," but they always seem to get their way. Hmmmm......it's only going to get worse I feel.
Also shown is the knife blank Phillip/PDobson and Mike Blue have been helping me with. It is going to be a flat ground, 1/8" blade and tang with integral bolster, probably scaled in ironwood or similar hardwood.

Thanked: 1936I like the way your razors look patterned out as I was getting concerned. A smiling blade is a bit more difficult to try and hollow than a straight blade, especially when you are talking about working with hand tools. Looks good...time to start making dust!

Got a pattern cut from G-10 and pinned in an old set of wooden scales. I figured I had better see how the razor felt in hand before I had the blanks cut tomorrow! That would really suck to find out something I really missed!!
Don't worry, these aren't even close to what I'm going to use, they're just what I had lying around that were close to the right size. I like the way the pattern feels in my hand. I am glad I shortened the blade! It would have been WAY too long otherwise. Again, open to hearing opinions.
No comments on the "money maker" as ALB put it. Just playing with what God gave me.
I also had a picture of me stroping, but it really didn't come out well. The picture, not the stropping. It'll strop fine.
Also a shot in there of it compared to a generic 5/8 Hamburg Extra Hollow.

Shooter, what concerned you before, and what about them being patterned out resolved aforementioned concern? Am I missing something?

Yes, alas sadly, Cindy Crawford I am not. Paramedicine has not been good for or to me.
My wife, before we were married believed me to be filthy rich. After marriage, she found she was correct on the former half.

There is a reason razors got "straight".
It makes good geometry easier
and makes sharpening on flat hones
easier.
Do not toss the narrow stock without
considering less smile in the design.
I do have an older short tail that looks
a lot like your first drawing. It is hard
to hone but shaves just fine.
have fun...

Nifty, I took your words under advisement and since I hadn't had the blanks cut yet, I squared one end off on one of the blanks, making it a French point. It looks nice actually, kind of like the looks of it. I may be making fraternal twins here!

Thanked: 48Looks like the tang could be a bit longer to more comfortably fit a finger with the scales a bit less acute (opened less then 90 degrees up). I tend to prefer the scales open about 45-50 degrees up from straight out so it is easier to see my face while shaving instead of the scales blocking my view. It also seems to balance better with the scales at an angle instead of straight up.
French Point sounds really sweet and perhaps slightly less smile as mentioned.
