I admire your persistence. It looks like you have a great finish on the blade. I truly hope that the HT goes well, considering how much work you have done. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Sending out for HT tomorrow. I don't know if I will be able to stand the wait and anticipation to find out if it curls or not!
As an aside, I did a bit of trig tonight and determined the final dimensions of 1.055" spine to tip perpendicular to the spine, 1.0625" along the face, and 0.25" spine width. That gives an edge angle of 13.5 deg and a spine to width ratio of 1:4.22. That's a little longer that I really wanted originally, and will be a fairly shallow edge, so I'm not sure how the edge will hold up. Should be a heck of a whisker wacker though. A strip of tape will help the angle out a bit, so maybe we can do that.

Everyone cross your fingers or pray to your respective Gods that my blade survives HT. It went to Mike Blue today!

Respective Gods. ROFLMAO (it is late). I think you should be OK, it is a thick wedge. If it does warp a bit, improvise

Thanked: 1936Mike is a great HT'r, listen to his advice...guy is a well of knowledge in his field. With your blade being so wedgy...even if it potato chips it will only be at the edge and there will be plenty of metal there to finish it, you may just loose 1/8. Welcome to the world of blade making...now you are hooked & it only gets worse on the _AD's. What will be your next "acquisition"?

Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Well, you're right about being hooked. I have to finish this one, then the square point from earlier is getting made into a fixed blade, and then I think I'm going to make one or two of each of these out of 1/4" O-1.
Patterned off an 1820-1830 blade style. Hopefully the grinding will be easier with a straight edge rather than that smiling wedge stuff. Also, I hope to have my grinder built by then. I'd love to make one a near wedge and one a 1/4-1/2 hollow.

Update time!
I PM'ed Mr. Blue and inquired about the status of my razor. Got this back:

Congratulations Brian. I'm happy that it has all well with the HT. I got my first two back this week from HT with straight edges also, it's a great feeling after putting in so much work.
If you haven't worked with horn before, it can present problems that a synthetic material will not, that being said buffalo horn comes up great. Robsbits is a fleaBay seller that has some nice natural materials.
Carbon Fibre looks great too.

I can't find any of Robsbits listings. I'm thinking about bone with a wooden or pewter wedge actually.
