For future reference, eliminate most "finish" issues by a simple Acetone wipedown on every set of scales... I saw where Gerritt mentioned it earlier too...
I gave up second guessing wood a long time ago and just wipe down every set...

    The blade is looking sweet

ps: my wife is now trained to say "Leave them be, don't touch them honey you know you'll be pissed if you do"
    baldy and groovyd like this.

be careful with acetone on wood.
You might have a nasty surprise with purple heart.

Does denatured alcohol accomplish the same thing as acetone?

And, what happens with acetone and purpleheart?

I don't know I have done a few in purpleheart and had no problems, I have some from 2 different suppliers at home so I am going to try two test patches and see if maybe I missed a reaction somewhere along the line... I am curious now but that is what SRP is really all about we find out a ton of info here...

Last coat. It built up nicely. I will wait until tomorrow night to mess with them [yeah right] again. They should come up great with a buff of scratch-x. Then seal the back and pin! So close I can taste it.

I have always learned and then later been told that MEK is the best solvent for wood finishing. It initiates cross linking of unsaturated polyester resins according to wikipedia. YMMV

Lol... wasn't trying to hijack a thread but since you asked here you go...

Building it up (coincidentally when I learned about resin/epoxy issues)...

After building and balancing and testing the propellers (they took as long as the rest to make)...

After a day on Lake Nacimiento, California (the shirt and boat were both yellow before )...

Built the trailer for it too

Yeah, I'm going to have to build a better photo booth, but I'm hoping for some nice pictures.

Also, hovercraft pictures are not a thread hijack. I'm always up for hovercraft pics!!
