For this powder it's 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Looking at a chart for carbon steels, it looks like that is OK for most of them. This one honed fine, time will tell how well the edge maintains.

I am not sure about affecting the shave. I don't think it will, since I didn't do anything with the bar, but I have not shaved with it yet.
