Those are probably original scales. But they have likely shrunk (as some celluloid scales will) I would rather shrinking scales than rotting scales!

I have a DD SatinWedge... near mint. And I recently pulled it out and discovered the first tell tale measle dots. I'm glad I caught it before it became like that one!
