Na, the void for the balsa is only minutely smaller than the slabs, pushing them in creates a bit of a friction stay, so theres no real force wanting to bow them. Lapp-able with sandpaper...

My colleagues found it rather amusing I was making 'paddles' - most thought I was into something else entirely...

Ok ok, so not as exciting at the title suggest, but here's a couple of balsa paddle strops I whipped up on the laser cutter that I'm fortunate enough to have access to.
