Thanks. I'm not sure if that would have been anodizing. I may be wrong, but anodizing is essentially an oxidizing process. For steel that would be bluing. Correct any ignorance on my part.

Hmmmmm, hadn't thought about painting the lettering. Yellow letters with the blued metal around it might look pretty sharp. Then again, if I screw it up, might look terrible.

DD special #1...blued tang?
I'm cleaning up and restoring this DD Special #1. The pics don't show it very well, but there appears to be bluing on the tang. Very faded now. Is that authentic? I'd like to bring this back to...
