    Default DD special #1...blued tang?

I'm cleaning up and restoring this DD Special #1. The pics don't show it very well, but there appears to be bluing on the tang. Very faded now. Is that authentic? I'd like to bring this back to as close to new as possible. Would this have been sold blued, or did someone do it later on?

Edit: Upon closer inspection, it looks like it may have been COMPLETELY blued. Same question.

Blued Tang and Top of Spine on the #1 and the Dwarf was standard,,, BUT ,,, I am not sure it was standard on all of them, throughout all the years of production...
So if it was there it was probably done at the factory, but if it isn't that doesn't absolutely mean anything bad.

Thanks, Glen. That explains the very faded bluing on the spine. I'll pull out the Blue Wonder and have at it.

The special #1 I am working on looked like anodized, the tang was black and the lettering yellow. Even the spine almost all the way to the toe was black, but all this is gone now.
There are places that can do blackening on metals, but for one piece it will be not cost effective at all.

Hmmmmm, hadn't thought about painting the lettering. Yellow letters with the blued metal around it might look pretty sharp. Then again, if I screw it up, might look terrible.

You can't mess it up, well I guess you could, but it is rather easy to do, you smear the gold paint on, then immediately wipe it lightly with a rag the etched letters stay gold the tang wipes clean... At least that's how I do them...

That's what I was thinking. Got paint suggestions? I was considering nail polish.

Thanks. I'm not sure if that would have been anodizing. I may be wrong, but anodizing is essentially an oxidizing process. For steel that would be bluing. Correct any ignorance on my part.

I have a Dubl Duck Special No.1 that I use often and I love it, no blue tang though, it's the straight color of the steel throughout the whole razor.

They all shave very nicely and take an awesome edge on the hones, so it's all good.

The older ones had the partial bluing. It was pretty common. Some of the older bresnick models (not the special #1s) were totally blued.
